Transcendental Style in Film: Ozu, Bresson, Dreyer

Paul Schroeder is an American film director, screenwriter and film theorist. In 1972, he published his study of the transcendental style in cinema, devoted to the analysis of films by of Ya. Ozu, R. Bresson and K. Dreyer, their theological aesthetics in particular. In the new expanded edition of this study, Schroeder reflects on the transcendental style evolution, its transformation into "slow cinema", exemplified by the films of A. Tarkovsky, A. Kiarostami, B. Tarra, Sh. Ackerman and other directors.
